Relines, Additions and Repairs

Over time, your mouth and dentures undergo natural changes. Dentures should generally be replaced every five to seven years to restore optimum fit, function, and appearance.

In the meantime, if your dentures require a repair, an addition, or relining, we can advise you on the most suitable treatment plan. Your Denturist can often provide same-day service for relines, additions and repairs, minimizing the amount of time you’re without your dentures.

Relines
A reline involves adding new denture base material to the tissue side of your existing denture to restore a snug, comfortable fit. This is often needed when your gums or bone have changed shape over time. An intraoral impression is taken inside your current denture to ensure the most accurate and secure fit.

Repairs
Repairs are needed when a denture cracks, breaks, or a tooth becomes damaged. Most repairs can be completed the same day in our on-site laboratory. You should never attempt to fix dentures yourself—household adhesives can cause irritation and lead to a poor fit.

Additions
If you lose a natural tooth, additional teeth or clasps can often be added to your existing partial denture rather than making a new one. Additions help maintain proper function, comfort, and appearance when changes occur in your mouth.

Schedule an appointment for a denture repair or reline—most can be completed the same day. Your Denturist is the professional best suited to repair a broken denture and provide guidance on preventing future damage. Never attempt to repair or alter your dentures yourself, as household adhesives can compromise the fit, cause irritation, and potentially affect your overall oral health.

How do I know if I should book a reline, addition or repair appointment?

If your dentures feel loose, slip when you talk, or require frequent adhesive to stay in place, it may be time for a reline to restore a secure fit.
If you notice your denture has cracks, chips, or broken teeth, you’ll likely need a repair.

And if you’ve recently had a tooth extracted, your partial denture may need an addition to replace the missing tooth or clasp.

Your Denturist will assess your needs and can often provide same-day service for relines and repairs to minimize the time you’re without your dentures.

How often should I replace my dentures?

Dentures should generally be replaced every five to seven years to maintain optimal fit, function, and appearance. Over time, natural changes in your mouth and everyday wear can affect comfort and performance. At Battell Denture Clinic, we’ll recommend replacement based on your specific needs.

Most dental insurance plans cover new dentures every five years, relines every two years, and repairs or additions to existing dentures according to your policy coverage.

How often should I visit my denturist?

We recommend annual maintenance check-ups to keep your dentures fitting comfortably and functioning properly. These visits allow your Denturist to assess tissue changes, check for wear, and make adjustments as needed—helping extend the life of your dentures and ensuring you continue to smile with confidence.
